Judy Paulsen Young and Tammy Buchanan realized the need for CPR and First Aid classes. The two being in the local EMS and Fire Departments saw that not enough people understood the need of CPR and First Aid. Many Family members would tell us as health care providers that they “ didn’t know what to do to help”. Seeing that need, Keep the Beat was formed in 2005. Both have over 30 years of instructional experience at a local college. Taking that knowledge and experience we began teaching local health care providers, daycare providers, personal trainers, shipyard employees and schoolteachers. Giving them American Heart Association CPR and First Aid certifications as the courses are completed. Both have had great satisfaction in educating anyone that comes to us for these classes. We have enjoyed sharing our knowledge with others and them coming back and telling us that it helped them to know what to do when an emergency arises. Judy has a sincere desire for everyone to know how to correctly perform CPR and administer First Aid.  Teaching CPR is very important to her and what she really enjoys doing.  Judy has 20 years of CPR and EMS experience as well as 20 years of actively teaching in the EMS program at Tidewater Community College.
