Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads was founded in 1988 by citizens who wanted to better their community. A stable home environment is the beginning of the change. Families have more time to focus on the important things – more time spent with each other, further their education and pursuing opportunities of advancement with employment. Habitat SHR works to eliminate poverty housing by providing low income families an opportunity of homeownership. We build and renovate homes in South Hampton Roads for qualified families with the support of individual donations and volunteers giving their valuable time. We have built 210 homes so far, and are adding 10-15 homes per year for deserving families all over the South Hampton Roads region.

Habitat for Humanity of South Hampton Roads engages the community in building opportunities for qualified families to achieve independence and stability through purchasing an affordable home. We serve all seven geographical entities that comprise South Hampton Roads: Chesapeake, Isle of Wight, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Smithfield, Suffolk, and Virginia Beach.
